What is the treatment for a high fever?
For a high fever, take an antipyretic medicine such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, or aspirin. Then try to cool your body by taking a cool bath, applying ice packs to your groin and armpits, wearing light clothing and remove blankets even if your fever makes you feel cold. Also consider presentation to an emergency room depending on any other symptoms you may be experiencing, or if your temperature does not decrease following these interventions.

Are there any specific preparations I need to undertake before the scan?
Hi! There is typically no prep required prior to a ct scan. Depending on the area the scan is ordered to address, you may want to ensure you wear clothing that does not have metal underwires, zippers, snaps, etc and avoid jewelry within the target area. Alternatively, you may expect to change into a hospital gown if your clothing may obscure the imaging study. If contrast is ordered, you should expect to arrive prior to your scheduled scan time so that an RN can gain IV access, inject the contrast medium, allow the contrast to circulate, then assist you to the scanner. Following the imaging study, IV access will be discontinued before you are sent home. Many CT scans are completed in 15 mins or less. You lie on a moving table that advances into a large donut and back out again. People who are claustrophobic typically do not report issues with CT scans. MRI scans are more frequently an issue for those with a fear of small spaces.

If I have a severe allergic reaction to food, what are the immediate emergency treatments given in the ER?
Severe allergic reactions are often treated with an epi pen that a Primary Care Provder can prescribe so you have this essential medication on hand to use should you have a severe allergic reaction to food. Following administration of the Epi pen, then you or a bystander should call 911 to get someone experiencing a severe allergic reaction to an emergency room. At the emergency room, a patient experiencing a severe allergic reaction may require additional doses of epinephrine, they may need supplemental oxygen including potential intubation and ventilator support, andor administration of antihistamines and decongestant medications.

Does the first shot of Covid-19 Vaccination give you any immunity to the Delta strain?
Hi, if you are physically in WA or OR, where I am licensed as an RN, then I can provide the following medical guidance regarding Covid vaccination. COVID19 vaccines are updated to give you the best protection from the currently circulating strains. The 20242025 COVID19 vaccines more closely target the JN.1 lineage of the Omicron variant. 20242025 COVID19 vaccines are updated to give you the best protection from the currently circulating strains. httpswww.cdc.govcovidvaccinesstayuptodate.htmltextWhat20to20know,and20people20with20long20COVID. So even if this is your first COVID vaccine, you will be getting an updated 20242025 formulation as opposed to the first round of Covid vaccines from 20202021. The delta variant dates back to Oct 2021. I hope this helps!

ER or not for chronic severe skin infections?
Hi, yes, I am licensed as an RN in Washington and Oregon, and if I had a patient who reported this type of skin rash that is spreading, I would recommend presentation to an ED or Urgent care. Your history of MRSA, reported odor associated with the rash, and rapid spreading of this rash are further reasons to present for in person evaluation asap.

What is the treatment for endocarditis?
Antibiotics and sometimes surgery. If you have this diagnosis, I hope you have a provider who can direct you to your best treatment options.
-
Can medications help with arrhythmia?
Hi, yes, some arrhymias can be managed with medications. If you live in OR or WA, where I hold RN license, then my advise is to ask your primary care provider for a referral to a cardiologist to determine the best path to manage your arrhythmia.

What caused my rash?
Hi, nurses are not trained to diagnose, so I recommend you report your symptoms to your primary care provider. If you dont have a PCP, then I would advise a patient in a state I hold an RN license WA and OR to present to urgent care for evaluation given this is not resolving on its own. RNs are limited to only provide medical advice to patients who are physically in a state where the RN is licensed.
