Work Description / Areas of Expertise / Job Duties

  • VA Puget Sound Health Care System - American Lake Division
    • Serve as an IP Consultant, collaborating with providers and leadership while sharing knowledge and expertise to improve practice and veteran outcomes through QAPI, PPE Committee, Water Management Committee, Construction Safety Committee, Infection Prevention Committee, Safety Committee, and Antibiotic Stewardship Committee.
    • Conduct epidemiologic investigations to identify causative agents or environmental conditions contributing to adverse health events.
    • Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
    • Educate and mentor new employees in VAPS on infection prevention and control practices, providing on-the-spot corrections and education for safety concerns such as hand hygiene and PPE donning and doffing during surveillance rounds to ensure safety for veterans and staff. Collaborate with departments to promote high reliability and accountability in infection prevention practices.
    • Perform weekly Environment of Care (EOC) rounds, addressing needs, improvements, and compliance concerns in alignment with TJC and CMS standards and regulations.
    • Conduct construction site walk-throughs, create and review Pre-Construction Risk Assessments (PCRA), issue Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) permits, inspect sites for ICRA compliance, report violations, and conduct weekly construction safety rounds. Collaborate with FMS, the safety team, and contractors to ensure effective control measures are in place, maintaining a safe environment for veterans and staff.
    • Review water testing results through Phigenics analytics for VAPS, collaborating with the Water Safety Committee, FMS, providers, and nursing staff to assess results and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to address infection prevention challenges and develop effective solutions.
    • Lead infection prevention initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing patient safety and reducing healthcare-associated infections.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with infection control standards and best practices.
    APIC Puget Sound Chapter
    • Provide expert guidance on infection prevention and control in long-term care settings.
    • Collaborate with board members to develop and implement effective infection control policies.
    • Participate in board meetings and contribute to strategic planning initiatives.
    • Review and analyze infection data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
    • Advocate for best practices in infection prevention and control within the long-term care community.
