  • Will I need to remove any jewelry or metal objects before my imaging test?

For a CT scan it depends on the location of the scan. If the jewelry will be in the way, then yes. If you need an MRI you will need to remove anything that is metal and let the technician know if you have any medal implants or objects. The technician will let you know at the time of the scan if you need to remove anything. I would suggest any time you go for a test or procedure leave any valuables at home, so you have less to worry about.

  • Is an MRI scan painful?

MRI scan is not painful, but it can be quite warm and loud. Also the table you lay on might not be very comfortable, but the technician will help make you as comfortable as possible. The technician will give you give you a button to push if you get too warm or you need anything. To make the scan successful and efficient you should hold as still as possible. Your time in the machine depends on body part getting scanned. If you are just getting your knee scanned it will be much shorter that if you are getting a complete spine. It is also important to let the technician know if you have any medal in your body. The MRI works off of a very strong magnet.

What do you attribute your success to?

  • Putting a priority on continuing education and constantly learning. The other thing that I believed has really helped me in my nursing career is that I have been on the other side, having been a patient myself for 5 years while I fought Leukemia. Being a patient helped me tremendously and I have learned from that experience how to best advocate for my patients.
