Work Description / Areas of Expertise / Job Duties
I have only been a nurse for only six months, however, in that time I have been taught post-operative procedures and how to preform wound care on post-operative patients'. I provide patient care in an organized manner, utilizing my knowledge of the nursing process to give patients' the best care in a safe manner.
Brief summary of your nursing background
I started nursing school in 2014 when I was accepted into the RN program. Things did not go as planned by any means and I failed my final semester in the program, twice. Which meant I was not eligible to continue in the program. I was devastated thinking there were no other options when the Dean and the nurse coordinator of my program said, "There is a position in the Practical Nursing Program for you. Would you accept? It begins in January of 2019."

I did accept and graduated in May of 2020 as a Practical Nurse. I passed my State Boards in August of 2020 and began working right away. Though it has been a difficult road, I am so fortunate to have finally become a nurse!
What made you choose a career in nursing?
I had a tragic incident happen as a child. I was four years old and had to be taken to the ED. Two nurses took care of me in the ED and their care for me was amazing. I never forgot. After that, I would always say, "I am going to join the Army and become a nurse!" People would never believe either, however, I have done both!
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
I attribute my success to my training inn the Army, because of that training I never give up...I push harder!
What motivates you at the start of each day?
My family-- The Duhe's! They have been there for me when I failed and when I succeeded! They have been my biggest cheerleaders!
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
I treat each patient as I want my family to be treated, and give them the care I would to anyone!

My husband and I met in the Army. We were married in 2004 and also welcomed a son that same year. In June 2007 I was deployed to Bagdad, Iraq. My husband was deployed in September of 2007, also to Iraq. My sister-in-law (Lisa) raised Aaron until I came home in September of 2008. My husband came home in December of 2008. I was honorably discharged in June 2009. In 2013, my husband and I bought a home in New Iberia, LA (his home town). We moved there shortly after. In June of 2014, my husband and I decided to take guardianship of our 14 year old nephew. We raised him and Joseph is an amazing young adult!
