Provides nursing care in accordance with physician orders, standards of care, and departmental policies and procedures evaluating and revising care as needed.Administers medications in accordance with nursing practice standards, evaluates responses, outcomes and adverse effects. Observes and reports changes in the resident's condition to the medical provider and/or other appropriate health professionals. Assesses and identifies learning needs of the resident/family,plans and provides for patient/family training and education, and evaluates level of learning. Performed skills such as tracheostomy and ventilator care and suctioning, GTube care, administer medication appropriately, and administer feedings.
What made you choose a career in nursing?
She chose to pursue nursing as a career after being in and out of the hospital numerous times. The impact by which the nurses left on her after this experience pushed her towards the career choice. She knew she wanted to go into the medical field but was unsure of which profession exactly up until this point. She knew from then she wanted to pay it forward to better someone elses hospital experience as a caregiver.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
She was a patient herself for an extended period of time. Throughout her expereince the nurses help makethe best out of a bad situation. She treats patients as she would want her own family members to be treated.
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
Kahya makes a difference in her patients lives by personalizing the care she provides for each of her patients. She takes the time to get to establish a rapport and truly get to know her patients beyond what is written in their chart. She enusres that she makes an effort to sit, listen, and talk to her patients to understand them as an individual.

Kahya Wright, BSN, RN is a registered nurse currently serving pediatric patients at St. Mary's Hospital for Children in New York. She is a highly motivated, dedicated, and passionate recent graduate from Pace University with a Cum Laude Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree. In order to provide her patients with the best care, she is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, as well as, Pediatric Advanced Life Support for the little ones. Kahya attributes her successful nursing career to being a patient herself. She believes in treating patients as she would want her own family members to be treated. Kahya lives by the motto of "being the change you want to see in the world." This motivates her each and every day to make a difference no matter how big or small in a patients life durng a difficult time. She loves what she does as a nurse more and more each day and could not see herself doing anything else.
