Brief summary of your nursing background
I worked in the emergency room, cardiac icu, and trauma/burn icu. Then, I went to further my education and earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and my Family Nurse Practitioner License.
What made you choose a career in nursing?
When my cousin was injured in the hospital, I saw how the nurses cared for him and I told myself I want to care for others when they are in need. I love making a difference in someone’s life, decreasing the morbidity and mortality rates and improving patient outcomes.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
Making a difference and helping those in need, especially the underserved population.
What motivates you at the start of each day?
Thinking about how blessed and grateful I am, and thanking God everyday.

Shannon Ginell Richards, DNP, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC is a 28 year old Doctor of Nursing Practice from Miami, Florida. She is currently serving patients on a COVID 19 crisis travel assignment located in Texas. To begin her career, Shannon attended Florida A&M University and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2015. Throughout her 6 years of nursing she has been blessed to worked at Baptist Hospital of Miami’s Emergency Department, University of Miami’s Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, and Jackson Memorial Hospitals Ryder Trauma Center in the Trauma/Burns Intensive Care Unit. She then earned her Master’s degree in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing degree in 2020 from Florida Atlantic University. Shannon is currently a Family Nurse Practitioner. In order to provide her patients with the best care, she currently specializes in health and wellness, emergency, critical care and trauma. In order to remain up to date in her field, Shannon is an active member of The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. On a more personal note, she attributes her success to being able to make a difference, helping others live a healthier life so they can look and feel good, and improving patient outcomes.
