Covid Crisis Response
19
19 years as a RN, BSN. 10 years in Medical Surgical, Psychiatric, Long Term Acute Care. 7 years as a Home care Hospice nurse. Family Nurse Practitioner since 2019.
Initially, I wanted to be a College English Professor. But when my Best Friend was accepted into school as a Radiology Technologist, I began to consider a medical career. I looked into nursing, started taking classes, and never turned back. Taking Anatomy and Physiology was the turning point for me. I was fascinated by the human body and realized I wanted to learn more and that this was a career in which I would grow, love, and excel.
I attribute my success in nursing to my love for people. Communication is very important. I truly love working with my colleagues and creating a rapport with my patients. Nurses should truly realize how they impact the lives of their patients just by acknowledging their feelings, letting them know their concerns are important, and that we are here to provide the best care possible for them while under our care.
My Father in Heaven and my family.
I believe I make a difference by the way I care for my patients. I may say something to make them laugh when they haven't smiled in days. And I show them that I care by taking a couple of minutes to talk to them, even if it's non-medical related. Especially with the loneliness they may feel with Covid right now, just taking 2 or 3 minutes to listen to them, and let them talk about their lives, can make their day.

Cooking and time spent with family
Los Angeles, California
I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and relocated to Fort Worth, Texas in 2012. I have a wonderful husband of 25 years and we have 2 amazing children. We love to spend family time together whether it's an outing or just hanging around the house. I love to cook especially if I'm trying a new recipe. I received my BSN in 2002 and my MSN in 2019. My new goal is to return to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to obtain my DNP within the next few years. I am a lifetime lover of education and after obtaining my DNP would love to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Christian Studies from a Baptist University.
