Brief summary of your nursing background
I have been a practicing nurse since 1995 and have been with Providence Saint Patrick Hospital since 1/1998. My experience has been vast and varied, I worked as a staff nurse on a busy Renal/Oncology and Medical overflow unit for 12 years and as a charge nurse on a 13 bed Transitional care unit for 4 years. During that same time I was a preceptor for all new hires within the hospital and also was on a committee that updated/wrote all hospital policies that guide nursing practice for our hospital. I have recently taken on a new direction toward rehab nursing in Neuromuscular Disorders and am currently helping my provider expand her practice in partnering with the Neurosciences Institute with in Providence St Patrick Hospital. I have enjoyed my career and enjoy interacting with people and helping those most vulnerable in our community.
What made you choose a career in nursing?
I have always been interested in helping others for as long as I can remember.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
Truly enjoy working with people and enjoying what I do. I learn something new almost every day because in nursing you never know it all.
What motivates you at the start of each day?
I have a new opportunity each day to make a difference in someones life at a critical time in theirs. Each day is a learning experience and I am challenged to be a better caregiver with each patient I interact with.
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
I would hope that they would say that I listened to their needs and validated their feelings and treated them with respect.
