Work Description / Areas of Expertise / Job Duties
Tending to people at their homes. Making independent choices by agreement with clients. Travelling to other places with clients and general duties to do with client cares.
Brief summary of your nursing background
Attending scenes of accidents where someone was bleeding to death but they lived after I cared for them. Community cares for sick people and those with fractures until they became well enough to do things for themselves. Being called to remote places where the electricity was cut off from a storm. Called to mental health areas where patients were on uncontrollable rages attacking everyone and attempting to kill them.
While shortages of staff arriving at a moments notice. Working in a laboratory where specimens were tested as staff refused to work until they were given a higher wage, caring for someone with drug and alcohol dependency problems and getting bitten by a guard dog while driving him to visit his friend, an ex convict. Doing full cares and duties for a tetraplegic. Going to hospitals in New South Wales by on call agreements to do general duties in different areas of the hospital, wards, radiology, E.D., patient transport and other duties as needed.
Attending cares in people homes as needed, when needed during periods of convalescence and also long term needs for the person.
What made you choose a career in nursing?
I care about people. I feel a need to help those who cannot care for themselves or do things for themselves independently. After seeing people involved in accidents in different situations (I was the first responder), I successfully did what was necessary. I then continued assisting people in varying ways and then obtained my Nursing Degree and did extensive work in intensive care areas in hospitals. I then moved to independent cares for people in the community.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
Studying, hard work and being mindful of interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues as well. Also a lot of experience and working with others with a lot of experience.
What motivates you at the start of each day?
Thinking of others, they need assistance.
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
Being there for them.
Research Interests
Mental health, psychological make-up and physiological make-up of psycho I geriatric patients. Certain aspects of their memories while becoming violent, and the forgetfulness and comments, actions while doing daily activities. Also physiological aspects of pain emanating from within the Brain (enigmatic in the theoretical cause of pain).
I have also published articles and more recently books (Kindle Amazon, also paperbacks) for people to indulge in study and realising they can make a difference.
Articles Summary
After attending accidents, helping those in need, being there for people that need help I continue studying and caring for any sort of people. Assisting colleagues and others when needed-team work. Persevering through different adverse conditions until the desired result is achieved is what I do and strive for to have a successful outcome.
