Attending an accident where part of a steering wheel of a car was protruding into someone's chest. After messages related to me from the telephone that person lived. Later I obtained my first aid certificate and assisting in the first aid room. Then moving into the community to care for people at their home. Some problems were fractured tibias, ulbas and other such things. I also cared for others while they were sick.
More recently (9 years ago), I cared for my mother who was terminally I'll with cancer. She developed vascular dementia and at times became violent. After this episode I became a personal assistant to a tetraplegic doing her cares and driving her places.
I have also worked on call to private hospitals where psycho geriatric patients were uncontrollable. Among other duties while on call were attending remote areas where power had been cut off due to a storm.
More recently was tending to someone with a drug and alcohol dependency problem on a weekend basis. Eventually being bitten by a guard dog while he was visiting someone (an ex convict, one of his regular associates).
Although mostly while working in hospitals those I care for are very grateful for the cares I give them. At times crying when it is time for me to leave.
Being in nursing and caring for others has brought me into contact with a vary diverse group of people. Relatives of leaders of countries, famous singers, convicts with jail warden escorts, young and old alike.
It is very rewarding to be in this field.
I love doing this job.
