Radio Oncology Nurse for over 10 years participating in the treatment and navigation of patients with various types of cancer that can be treated with Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy.Most of my work is counseling and orienting patients and family members on care and treatment of there conditions. Along with maintaining there records up to date along with follow up care post treatment. Monitoring there progress and health status during treatment.Attend any emergency that may arise during treatment.

I am a Nurse with over 39 years experience with specialized training and progressive knowledge in Internal Medicine , Pediatrics, Surgery and Nursing Instruction.Supervisory nurse in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Departments . Operating room Head nurse for over 23 years . Current certifications in CPR, ACLS . Certified in Varian "Arias " Program for patient record management. Current member of the Puerto Rico College of Professional Nursing since 1981. Active member of N.C.N.N. " National Coalition of Nursing Navigators" A.O.R. N. member since 1987 .Bilingual in Spanish and English .

What made you choose a career in nursing?

Ever since I can remember nursing was in my blood .I knew that I would be studying a Health care profession but something pulled me toward Nursing and knowing that I was there for my parents when they needed care in there golden years. Was my honor and satisfaction .

What Do You Attribute Your Success To?

Jose attributes his success to treating his patients with complete respect as well as viewing nursing as a vocation.

What motivates you at the start of each day?

My family and the patients I serve.

How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?

Knowing I contributed in there recovery over there illness and celebrated there victories over " cancer" .

Jose Vicente Delgado, RN, BSN, maintains a position with the
Instituto de Radioterapa Del Este, a large cancer treatment facility located in
Humacao, Puerto Rico. Since graduating from the University of Puerto Rico in
1986, Jose has accumulated thirty-five years of experience in his field. Specializing
in pediatric medicine, Jose serves as Team Leader of the operating room; being
responsible for many patients’ treatment and general well-being. He is
additionally certified in several life supports and CPR to ensure patient safety, and is an
active member of the College of Nursing Professionals of Puerto Rico
in order to remain up-to-date in his field.
