Attained a Bachelors of Science in Nursing with Honours and went on to complete a graduate degree of Masters in Nursing Education, also with Honours.
What made you choose a career in nursing?
I did not choose a career in nursing, it chose me. I used to volunteer at the local mental handicap hospital in high school as an extra pair of hands for feeding or whatever was needed. I just wanted to be able to help people,, but didnt think about how I would make a career of it.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
I attribute my success to having a deep, unswerving passion for nursing and people. I realise that I cannot change the world, but I can affect my portion of it, and just maybe those people that I affect, will be ripples on the world pond and change will occur. Education, caring and service is my gift to the world.
What motivates you at the start of each day?
No matter how I feel or what my situation, somebody needs me today. Be kind and respectful no matter what and make someone elses day better.
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
I believe that I make a difference to my patients by being calm, kind, honest and respectful. I show them that it is ok to be vulnerable and that I am there to get them through this phase of their life and on to the next, whatever that my be. Kindness is so important.
