Brief summary of your nursing background
I began my career in Great Bend, Kansas and then Wichita, Kansas. Background was primarily Home Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, then Assisted Living Director. I moved to Boise, Idaho in 2002 and have continued my career in Home Health and now as Assisted Living Director at Overland Court Senior Living in Boise, Idaho
What made you choose a career in nursing?
Nursing was a career that I had always wanted to pursue and the opportunity presented itself in 1983. I had a BS in Family and Child Development from Kansas State University, graduate hours in Counseling from Fort Hays State University and Wichita State University. I received my nursing degree from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas.
What Do You Attribute Your Success To?
Her continued hard work. The leadership and wonderful instructors. One of the best supervisors at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Mike Rogers was the most outstanding leader/supervisor that a new nurse could possibly ask for. His guidance, experience, and professionalism was a constant reminder why I chose nursing and wanted to continue to pursue this career, that was in 1986.
What motivates you at the start of each day?
My residents and their constant positive attitudes toward life in the later years. So many continue to love life and many have contributed so much through their military service and the years after participating in the military. Their stories constantly show how they have gone through many tough times but endured and so many have given their talents back to those around them and continue to do that daily. I always feel blessed at the end of the day to have much love around me.
How do you make a difference in the lives of your patients?
My positive attitude and knowledge of the aging process. My love of the elderly shows through my actions and I constantly strive to make life better for those folks that have many losses in their lives but continue to carry on.
